Alex puts forward new law

Today I proposed a new law to Parliament that would give a right to ten days paid safe leave to victims and survivors of domestic abuse. I have been overwhelmed by the number of constituents reaching out to me with stories of the domestic abuse they have experienced since I became an MP in July and I knew I had to do something about it.

One area (amongst many) in which victims and survivors need more support is the workplace. I am indebted to the support of local organisations and for the time and expertise they have shared in working towards this milestone, including the Hollie Gazzard Trust, GDASS, Fear Free, Honour Thy Woman, Women’s Aid and SafeLives.

Watch below to understand why I brought this Bill forward and what it could mean for victims and survivors of domestic abuse.
